the last word, v13

People Magazine has this feature thing on the last page of their magazine.  On the last page, they have a feature called the last word (so clever!) where a celebrity answers a few questions on some of the last things they've done.  So even though I'm not a celebrity or anything (wait. what?!), I'm going to go ahead and answer the questions.  Because, why not?

The last thing I broke was a a pair of reading glasses.  Thankfully I have a hundred cheap pairs laying all over the house, because I seem to break them all of the time.  I was sad though, because the latest pair I broke I really liked.  They were on my bed and I sat on them in the dark.  Damn it.

The last time I was scared was probably when we were recently away at this resort, and Brooke ran into the path of a car that was backing up.  It was like a slo-mo thing, and thank God someone yelled and the driver slammed on the brakes!  That was a heart on the ground kind of moment.

The last time I fought with a sibling was probably over the summer.  My BIL John and I had a loud screamy tiff one night, which is so very rare for me.  I don't fight with anyone much.  I think I won because I got an apology the next day.  That's all I will say about that.

The last TV show I watched was the finale of The Americans last night.  I decided to sort of challenge myself to watch the top ten shows recently recommended by People Magazine, and that was the first one on the list.  I ended up having to buck up and download the series from itunes because I couldn't get it on demand, but it was really great!  It's a show on FX about this couple who are Russian spies in the 80's, living as an average American family.  Kerri Russell and Matthew Rhys star in it and they're really good.  I can't wait til the next season starts.

The last day off I had was, well, pretty much every day.  I don't work.  Well, I work, but not like at a jobjob, so every day is "off" for me.  The last time I had a day off from my regular life though, like of being a mom and taking care of things at home I guess would have to be my last real solo get-away, which was to NM.  I have a couple of new get-aways in mind though, so I'll have some days off soon enough.

The last movie I watched was Frozen, at the theater with the kids.  I liked it!  It was really cute, a good little story with some good music.  Idina Menzel played one of the parts, and her voice is amazing, so that was cool.  Victoria really liked the movie because it was set in Norway, and it reminded her of home.

the last word, v12

People Magazine has this feature thing on the last page of their magazine.  On the last page, they have a feature called the last word (so clever!) where a celebrity answers a few questions on some of the last things they've done.  So even though I'm not a celebrity or anything (wait. what?!), I'm going to go ahead and answer the questions.  Because, why not?

The last time I was moved to tears, like, besides every day tears?  Hm.  I'm thinking they meant like, in the emotional sense, like something tugged at my heart and made me have a little well... I'm drawing a blank!  Probably because I am a wimpy crybaby whenever I get in my own head, which is like always, but I've been too busy to have time to think lately!  The last time I can honestly remember being moved to tears by something that got me in the heart was unexpectedly reaching into a pocket and finding this satiny piece of ribbon... I know it sounds so dumb, but it was a surprising little jolt and it reminded me of something that made me sad.

The last home project I did, well, does like, Christmas decorating count??  Because that took a really long time this past weekend!  Or like, bedroom shifting was pretty huge recently.  That was a home project and a half!  Every kid moved bedrooms and it took forever - ugh.  That's like four bedrooms filled with crap that needed to be emptied, cleaned and reassigned!  Thankfully I have a teenager with muscles who can lift and carry and heavy things all over the place.

The last time I laughed hard was listening to Alex try to speak Norwegian.  He sounded so silly trying to get the inflections right and he was making weird faces while he was doing it.  It just made me laugh really hard.

The last text I sent was: #stillherebutsweatingmyassoff, which was pretty much just goofiness.  We were basically hashtagging everything we were saying, just being silly, and he had asked me if I was still at the dumbass mall shopping.

The last game I played was Candy Crush.  Because I am a freak and I am addicted to that idiotic game.  Like only a freak would be.

The last time I danced was at my cousin Dan's wedding.  Which is where I pulled out some serious white girl Beyonce moves.  I never used to dance in public, but I kind of got over it.  Oh, I guess I also did a head bob, sort of slight movement while holding a glass of wine dance at a more recent concert I went to in Woodstock, but that might not actually count as "dancing."

The last time I took a bath was two nights ago.  I love to take baths, especially in the cold months.  And especially at night.  I like to have it really dim and quiet, with the water super hot so it's all steamy.  It's so nice and cozy.  My tub is extra long and extra deep, which I got specifically when we built the house, because I am a huge bath fan.  I can stay in the tub for hours... ahhhh

the last word, v11

People Magazine has this feature thing on the last page of their magazine.  On the last page, they have a feature called the last word (so clever!) where a celebrity answers a few questions on some of the last things they've done.  So even though I'm not a celebrity or anything (wait. what?!), I'm going to go ahead and answer the questions.  Because, why not?

The last time I went out to dinner was two nights ago in NYC.  Megan and I decided to go for a last minute train ride to the city to an Ed Sheeran concert at MSG.  She is such a huge fan.  It was her first concert ever, and she just about died.  We brought my niece Bridgett and met up with Kara and Frank and went to this cool bar called Stout in Manhattan.  I had a great steak salad, and there was yummy blueberry beer.  Mmmm

The last time I cried was so stupid.  I don't even know if it is considered a real cry but it was a well of tears.  Fine, maybe one or two fell, who cares.  I get random wells every other five minutes these days because I am a fucking freak.  I was thinking about this Halloween night way back in the 80's and the memory kind of got me choked up.

The last song I sang out loud is a song that I just cannot get out of my head.  It's called "I Wanna Be Yours," by The Arctic Monkeys.  And now I will share it with you.  Because, oh.  I feel it.

The last time I cringed was while watching a movie trailer for Anchorman, just the other day.  Oh. My. Gosh.  I just know I will be cringing throughout the entire movie, and I cannot wait.

The last time I cursed was this morning, because, of course.  I make a point to curse every day.  Because I love to fucking swear God dammit.  I believe I said, "Trick or fucking TREAT, yo."  Because I'm so gangsta.  *I said that to a grownup, I swear.

The last compliment I gave was when Alex hugged me.  I said, you smell really nice.  Because he does.

The last TV show that I watched was Duck Dynasty last night at like, midnight.  I love that show so much.  Every time I watch it, I laugh.  It really is addictive TV.  How can you turn it off?

The last website I visited was The Huffington Post.  I pretty much have a lineup of news and media outlets that I hit each day, I can get so caught up reading stuff... I really tend to like articles on The Huffington Post.

The last household chore I did was laundry.  It's always laundry.  Never ending laundry.  Laundry.

The last sports event I attended was a high school soccer game.  My son's soccer team was in the state semi-finals yesterday, it was very exciting!  They lost 1-0, but it was such a great, hard fought game, I was so proud of them.  I'm really sad the season is finished!  I can't believe next year is his last year playing high school sports.  I think I will be so sad when it's all over...

the last word, v10

People Magazine has this feature thing on the last page of their magazine.  On the last page, they have a feature called the last word (so clever!) where a celebrity answers a few questions on the last things they've done.  So even though I'm not a celebrity or anything (wait. what?!), I'm going to go ahead and answer the questions.  Because, why not?

The last concert I went to was Morrissey, a few months ago.  I am a huge fan, and it was the first time I had seen him in concert - up close and personal.  I definitely could see the sweat on his brow and he changed his shirt several times.  It was a good night, and being surrounded by hipsters made me feel a little bit cool.

The last gift I gave was unfortunately not all that thoughtful.  My nieces Bridgett and Brenna both had their birthdays a few weeks ago, and I was kind of a slacker on actually purchasing a physical gift.  So they got cash, which they certainly didn't seem too offended over.

The last reality show I watched was The Bachelor finale Monday night, with that cutie Sean Lowe.  No wait!  Survivor last night, which was freaking crazy with psycho Brandon.  It was definitely the most dramatic episode ever!

The last thing I cooked was Kabocha squash, steamed lemon broccoli and asparagus, and quinoa.  That was my dinner tonight and it was awesome.  I honest to God seriously considered licking my plate.

My last grooming experience was a pedicure.  I got one a few weeks ago.  What stinks is, it still looks good, like not chipped nail polish or anything, except one of my nails broke!  So I guess I have to go for a re-do.  Which isn't the worst thing in the world.

The last time I got angry was in Florida.  We were supposed to meet up with my sisters to go to dinner, and my jerk sister Ali so rudely didn't wait for us, so we got far behind them in the boat line.  She's very cut-throat about her place in line at Disney.  Ugh, I was seriously annoyed.  That was last month.  I don't get mad that often.  Maybe I was cranky.

The last time I stayed up late was probably last night, or the night before, or the night before.  I stay up late pretty much every night.  Often times tip 1:30 or 2:00 am.  I like the quiet dark.

The last thing I splurged on was probably airplane tickets.  We often drive to Florida because Ali is scared to fly, but this year we decided to fly because the drive just seemed so daunting.  So you know, five tickets was kind of a splurge.  But whatever, it was so worth it when I was home relaxing before my sister even made it out of Georgia.

The last purchase I made was so very exciting.  This morning I bought heartworm medicine for my dog, because I am a good and conscientious pet owner.  It was preventative medicine, she does not have heartworm.

The last time I went out to dinner was, once again, in Florida, about three weeks ago.  I went out to breakfast, lunch and dinner every day I was in Florida actually, which is exactly why I gained a few pounds while I was there.  Not good.  Well, apparently the food was very good, but the gaining part really sucks.

one last word, v9

The other day I saw this thing in People magazine called "The World According to..." and it was a little mini- interview type thing with Josh Groban.  Who actually happens to be a really funny guy.  I have no idea if it is like, a weekly feature, but the questions they asked him were different than the questions you usually see out there.

And I love questions.  Asking and answering them.  Fill in the blank, either/or, straight up curiosity ones... I'm all about the questions.  I like to dig deep.

So I answered them too.  Because I'm just so not even as witty and interesting as Josh Groban of course.

My biggest pet peeve, besides uttering the actual term "pet peeve," is probably dumb grammar.  I know being a grammar snob probably isn't the best thing to man up to, but it drives me nuts.  On the plus side though, I only correct my own children - not other people, which is something that I find kind of rude.  I hate when people don't grasp the whole me vs. I thing.  Like instead of saying, "That's for John and me,"  they'll say, "That's for John and I," which of course is not grammatically correct.  I seriously have seen those kinds of mistakes in actual books, with editors! I've also heard them on TV.  A huge offender is Allison Sweeney on The Biggest Loser.  I love her, but I want to reach through the TV and correct her all of the time.

My go-to karaoke song is non-existent.  I cannot get myself on a stage and speak coherently, much less sing in front of people.  A karaoke date would pretty much be my nightmare, and I would definitely have to be tanked in order to participate.  One of the very few times I actually sang Karaoke was with my sisters somewhere, and I was peer pressured into singing a Neil Diamond song, Sweet Caroline.  I may or may not have rocked the house.

The last time I went to an opera was a few years ago.  I am not typically an opera fan.  I've never really been into them, but my kid Kara was one of the leads in a show at college, Street Scene, and of course I went.  I'm not sure if it was because it was her show, but I definitely didn't hate it.  And she of course killed it.

My secret to a good hair day is to go to an expensive salon.  If I ever have a good hair day, that's why.  I mean, I can do my hair and it looks nice, for about 35 minutes.  I'll like, walk out of my bathroom feeling like a rockstar with nice hair, and before an hour is up, I'm like, what the hell?  I think it's because I have really thin hair.  It has no body whatsoever.  It just gets really flat fast.  Which is exactly why I am pro-pony tail.  And expensive salons.

The nerdiest thing about me may very well be my weird love of office supplies.  In all honesty, I could spend a ridiculous amount of time in Staples or Office Max, just longingly walking up and down the aisles.  I want everything.  I love Sharpies.  And folders.  And binders.  All of that stuff.  Maybe instead of being nerdy, that's just weird.

The biggest misconception about me is probably that I am snotty.  I think quiet people tend to get that a lot.  I absolutely do not think that I'm above you, I am just shyish, and I am not good at putting myself out there.  It really takes a while for me to warm up and join in.  I need to assess the situation first usually, and get a feel for the people that I'm in a conversation with.  Also, I've had people say they waved to me and I didn't wave back, and really, it's because I can't see!  Not because I am ignoring someone.  Promise!

My celebrity crush is hmm... Ryan Gosling.  I just find him really attractive in a non-threatening way.  Like, the super hot guys always seem to be dicks.  I think Ryan isn't your "typical" super hot guy, and in my thought process, that would make him be a good guy and not a jerk.  I also would probably not turn down a date with Ian Somerhalder.  And Jesse Williams.  I definitely would make out with either of them, even though Jesse is basically a baby and I am an old cougar.  Rawr.

(and segue into...)The best make out music.  In my opinion, it would probably be something not all slow and romantic-ish.  Is that weird?  Like, I think it would definitely lead to a hotter make out session if you were listening to something like Nine Inch Nails or The Cure - something like that.  Ah, I guess it depends on the mood.  Sometimes something slow and low and sexy, like a good tune from The Nationals or The Magnetic Fields would be the best kind of music for getting steamy.

What about you guys?  Want to answer some questions?

the last word, v8

People Magazine has this feature thing on the last page of their magazine.  On the last page, they have a feature called the last word (so clever!) where a celebrity answers a few questions on the last things they've done.  So even though I'm not a celebrity or anything (wait. what?!), I'm going to go ahead and answer the questions.  Because, why not?

The last thing I do before I go sleep at night besides taking a swig of water and putting on lip balm would probably be closing my eyes and imagining moments that I don't want to forget.  Imagining moments that I want to dream about when I'm finally asleep.

The last celebrity crush I had, hm.  I am not much for having crushes, but the last celebrity guy that I sat there and said, man he is freaking adorable about was probably Ian Somerhalder.  Seriously. Adorable.  And oh, Jesse Williams.  His eyes are killer.

The last car I purchased was for my husband I guess.  Kind of a nice, low key Mercedes, it's pretty fun to drive.  I can't exactly say I purchased it all by my big self, but I think both of our names are on the loan and we picked it out together.

The last time I was domestic would have to be about 45 seconds ago when I straightened up the family room.  Because that's what I do.  I am a domestic champion.

The last home I purchased was the home I live in now, which we built in 2004.  We're currently in the process of buying a little lake house, but my lawyer seems to be taking his sweet time getting everything in order.

The last time I splurged would have to be a little run to San Francisco, if I am talking about a splurge on myself.  Other than that, I splurged on Christmas presents for my kids, for sure.  It's ridiculous.

The last thing I ate would have to be a large handful or two of some Christmas looking Mike & Ike's last night.  They were really tasty.  I guess I should eat something...

The last thing I posted on the fridge was Brooke's expander schedule for her braces.  I can't really post anything on my fridge because it's stainless steel, but I snuck it on the side.  Not that I can see it there or anything.  It just seemed like a fridge post kind of thing.

The last time I cried, oh sheesh.  Yesterday?  I'm sure yesterday.  Driving in my car alone, listening to tunes gets me thinking and tearing up.  Not like a sob or anything, more like a tear or two that never falls.  But man, I'm a fucking wimpy crybaby these days apparently.  When did that happen??

The last gift I gave would have to be to my kids when I got back from San Francisco in October.  I like bringing them home little things from my trips, and it's a good way to get them to let me go without too much of a hard time.

the last word, v7

Wow, it's been a while since I've done one of these.  When I was on the plane the other day without any reading material, I was going through my notes and I stumbled over this list, which I had kind of forgotten about.

The last form of public transportation that I took:  I was just in San Francisco and I took the BART.  Even though I was distracted and missed my stop (that was pretty much 3 minutes away) and ended up going way far out of my way (pretty much a full hour when all was said and done), I love the BART.  Is that weird?

The last good deed that I did:  Well, the other day when I was going to my son's soccer game, there was this homeless guy looking pretty down and cold and wet, holding a cardboard sign on the street corner.  So I gave him $10.  I guess that was kind of a good deed.

The last home improvement that I made:  You know, it's been a bit since we've made any major home improvements.  I guess the closest I can come is getting a new washer/dryer.  Pretty boring.

The last card that I sent: I am horrible at remembering to send cards for important events.  I really am.  I try everything to get to it, and I end up with 50 written out but not sent cards, just sitting there.  Recently though, a friend had an unexpected death in their family, so I definitely sent a card.

The last song that made me rock out: Hm.  I'm pretty sure Megan and I were rocking out to "I Love Your Shoes," by Furniture in the car on the way home from the doctor's office.

The last time that I was scared:  Well, I was a little scared to walk alone from my hotel at night in SF, which I usually really enjoy doing.  Unfortunately, I was staying in a hotel that was sort of on the edge of a sketchy part of the city.  It was a really cool hotel though.

The last piece of advice that my mom gave me:  Sheesh, I don't even know... may have been about not trying to contact this stalker-like person that has been emailing/mailing things to certain people in my family for a while.  At this point, I have listened to her advice.  No promises though.

The last chore that I did:  Well, I do this chore every freaking day of my life it seems - flip the laundry.  I put the washed stuff in the dryer, the dry stuff in the folding area, and the dirty stuff in the wash.  Sounds mundane I suppose, but doing laundry doesn't usually bug me.

The last family vacation that I went on:  Well, I've gone off a few times without the family fairly recently - Boston, NYC, SF and SC.   But towards the end of the summer, all of us went to NC and spent a few weeks on the Outer Banks.

The last game that I played:  Oh man, I play games every freaking day.  It's slightly addictive.  The very last one I played though was SongPop on my iPhone about an hour ago.  I love that game.  Wanna play?

the last word, v6

People Magazine has this new feature thing on the last page of their magazine.  On the last page, they have a new feature called the last word (so clever!) where a celebrity answers a few questions on the last things they've done.

So even though I'm not a celebrity or anything (wait. what?!), I'm going to go ahead and answer the questions.  Because, why not?

The last playdate that (I?) had:  Well, I am a grown up, so I don't have playdates.  So I am assuming that we are all referring to the last kid playdate that occurred here at my house.  And that would be Friday, when there was a houseful of kiddos here, entertaining my kids.  Lots of sleepovers.  Yow.

The last purchase that I made:  Today, I purchased a rotisserie chicken and some chicken broth.  WooHOO!  So exciting!  But I am making my favorite chicken soup, so even though I was being a little sarcastic, I really mean it.  WooHOO!

The last time that I used a coupon:  Hm.  I am not opposed to coupons at all.  I love saving a buck.  I used a coupon Thursday when I picked up a few things at Macy's.  I would never buy anything there without using a coupon.  Because, why would you?!

The last time that I worked out: I worked out on Friday.  Hating every freaking moment of it.

The last thing that I laughed at:  I was perusing damnyouautocorrect.com.  I absolutely love those things.  Hilarious.  There is no way you can read them and not laugh.  I can spend an embarrassing amount of time on that site.

The last junk food that I ate:  I ate three pieces of dark chocolate.  Apparently it is supposed to be good for you.  I believe that it's supposed to be one piece of dark chocolate a day, but I'm just going to tell myself that three must be much better for my health.

The last time that I cursed:  That would have to be pretty recently I'm sure.  I cannot exactly recall the moment of the swear.  But I'm sure it happened.

The last thing that I cleaned:  I cleaned the kitchen.  Because that is what I do constantly.  All day.  Every day.  How does a kitchen always get so messy anyway?

My last impulse buy:  Basically, everything that I buy is impulsive.  I don't follow an actual list.  But I'm going to have to go with Popsicles.  I have tons of Popsicles, but I happened to see these pops that I knew my kids would like, so I just grabbed them.

The last time that I stayed up late:  I stay up late every night.  Because I can't fall asleep til well after midnight usually.  Something must be wrong with  me.

one last word, v5

People Magazine has this new feature thing on the last page of their magazine.  On the last page, they have a new feature called the last word (so clever!) where a celebrity answers a few questions on the last things they've done.

So even though I'm not a celebrity or anything, I'm going to go ahead and answer the questions.  Because, why not?

The last song I sang - I sang this song "Somebody That I used to Know," by Gotye on the way home from the gym in the car.  Pretty catchy tune.

The last time I was angry - I was angry a few nights ago I think, when I felt like someone was rude to me.  I guess I wasn't exactly angry, just ugh.  Sad.

The last TV show I loved - Oh, it has to be Modern Family.  That show is hilarious.  I can never decide who my favorite character is.

The last vacation I went on - I went to California in March with Kar.  I think that was my last getaway, and I loved every minute of it.

The last injury I had - You know, I can't even remember.  I have various aches and pains, but I haven't had an actual injury that I can remember since partially tearing something in my shoulder.  Well, I did step on a nail last summer and have to get a tetanus shot.  Does a puncture count?

The last thing I cooked - I just cooked an amazing soup this afternoon, turkey sausage with garbanzo beans.  I had a large bowl for lunch, and I plan on having a large bowl for dinner.  So, so yumm.

The last time I said sorry - Hm.  I used to be the worst at saying sorry.  But you know, I say sorry as needed now without hesitation.  I think it was a few weeks ago when it was definitely necessary.

The last thing I ate - I ate the turkey soup I made for lunch.  And then a few pieces of dark chocolate for good measure.

The last text I sent - Well, it was a text to my son, and it said "If you hang up on me I am taking your phone away for a week."  FYI - he chose not to hang up on me, so I think it was a pretty effective text.

The last gift I purchased - I purchased some gifts for my my oldest kiddo, who is having a birthday on Wednesday.  I can't tell what they are though because she might read this post and that would be no fun.

one last word, v4

People Magazine has this new feature thing on the last page of their magazine.  On the last page, they have a new feature called the last word (so clever!) where a celebrity answers a few questions on the last things they've done.

So even though I'm not a celebrity or anything, I'm going to go ahead and answer the questions.  Because, why not?

1. The last book that I loved.  I am going to have to go with The Hunger Games trilogy.  I don't find much time to read an actual book for some reason these days, so when I find myself staying up til 3 am propping my eyelids open with a fork to see what happens next, I know I love it.

2. The last time that I lost my cell phone.  Oddly enough, I don't think that I have ever really lost a cell phone.  Usually, I think I've lost it and I am frantically searching for it while it is in my hand.  I think that means I am prematurely senile.

3. The last time that I indulged.  Um.  I'm going to have to say this past weekend, when I was at an all inclusive resort.  So you know, all of that amazing food and it feels like it is totally free. Also, places like that make me tend to feel like I will never see a Belgian waffle again in my lifetime so in my brain it's really easy to justify eating 39 of them.  In one sitting.

4. The last reality show that I watched.  Last night I watched Survivor.  I love Survivor.  I'm pretty positive that I could probably win that show.

5. The last song I downloaded.  Ooh, the last song I downloaded was Somebody That I Used to Know, by Gotye.  It is so stinking catchy, I absolutely love it.

6. The last celebrity sighting that I had.  Oh well, you know, remember the Stiffmeister? Of course you do!  Because who doesn't know Stiffler?  Anyway, I mentioned a few weeks ago that I had a close encounter with him and I'm pretty sure he wants me.  Fine.  That may be a slight exaggeration.  Actually, I really was about from me to the end of the couch away from him (Seann William Scott), and it was very exciting because he smiled all cute in my general direction.

7. The last text that I received.  It would be this:  "YOLO!  Heading for the gate.  Whats for ding dong?"  There is a lot of been-married-for-over-15-years code going on there.  Yes, that was a text from my husband.  Translation:  "You Only Live Once!  I am walking to the gate at the airport where I will be boarding a tiny little commuter jet.  What will you be preparing for dinner tonight?"

8. The last thing that I cooked.  I am going to say it was chicken pesto with bow ties.  Two nights ago.  Because last night I had take-out edamame and a California roll.  Which I could technically eat every night for the rest of my life.

9. The last gift that I received.  I just received a really pretty crystal frame and gorgeous Burberry watch for my anniversary.

10. The last TV show that I watched.  The last TV show that I watched without distraction was last night's Modern Family - one of my current top three TV shows.  It makes me laugh hard every single week.
