6 THOUGHT PROVOKING QUESTIONS

I am definitely pro-questions, but I haven't done any Q&A posts in a while.  I saw a ton of these questions on a website recently, and I liked them because they are a little different than the standard ones you always see out there.  So I answered them.  Wanna answer some too?  I'd like to see your answers if you do...

If you were going to die at midnight, what would you be doing at 11:45pm?
Well, I would definitely be sitting somewhere beautiful - someplace that makes me feel peaceful, surrounded by the people that I love, eating good food, listening to good tunes and having lots of laughter and happiness.

What small thing could you do to make someone’s day better?
I like to think a genuine smile or a kind word goes a long way.

If you had all the money in the world but still had to have some kind of job, what would you choose to do?
Oh wow, probably something in the medical field.  I love hospitals.

When you’re 90 years old, what will matter most to you?
I think knowing that I raised good, kind, respectful kids - knowing that I had a part in adding a decent bunch of people to the world would definitely matter to me.  Also, that I was a good person, and did my best to be kind to people.

What do you regret most so far in life?
One big regret is not working harder in school and getting more of an education while I was younger.

How can you apply the lesson you learned from that regret to your life TODAY?
I guess I could do my best to get that message across to my kids, hope that they learn from my mistakes.  I could also get my ass back to college and try to fix that regret.

11 questions

1. What would you be doing right now if you weren’t answering my 11 questions?

Reading 50 Shades of Grey.  Except, that might be weird because my kids are all roaming around and I might feel like that could be considered inappropriate to read such smut in their presence.

2. If a genie were to grant you 3 wishes, what would your 3 wishes be?

  1. That I could get a little puppy that wouldn't poop on my kitchen floor or chew stuff.
  2. That Vampire Diaries could be on every night.
  3. That I could have a personal chef to cook for me - breakfast, lunch and dinner.  And a few snacks.  All crazy yummy and low calorie/healthy.

3. What’s in your purse?

Oh boring normal stuff.  I have a tiny purse because I am anti-purse, pro-pocket.  In my little purse I have cash, credit cards, Burt's Bees lip balm, Burt's Bees tinted lip balm, a pack of gum and a winning lottery ticket. Five bucks, but hey, I'll take it!

4. What book are you dying to read (or, if you’re more of a movie person, what movie are you dying to see)?

Well, I'm sure about dying, but I am interested in reading 50 Shades of Grey, mostly because everyone is talking about it.  I just downloaded it to my book nook.  I just can't not read it - I hate feeling like I'm missing out.

5. What are the three best words to describe yourself?

  • Pensive
  • Multi-tasker
  • Introverted

6. If you could trade places with someone for a week, who would it be and why?

So very shallow of me, but I’d probably trade places with someone rich and famous and beautiful, just to see if it was all it's cracked up to be.

7. What is your favorite song?

I just cannot answer that.  But some of my all time faves are: Just Like Heaven by The Cure, I Melt With You by Modern English, The Ghost in You by Psychedelic Furs, Lips Like Sugar by Echo & the Bunnymen, Please, Please, Please, Let Me Get What I Want by The Smiths,

8. What’s the best title for your biography or autobiography?

Mine would have to have the word 'boring' somewhere in the title.

9. If you won the lottery, what would you do with the money?

I’d buy a bunch of houses spread out around the US, and maybe a few in other countries.  I'd need a beach house in CA, a mountain house in CO, a lake house on the east coast, and a brownstone in NYC, among others.

I'd absolutely hire a personal chef, to like, live with me.  A trainer would be good too.
Then I’d donate big bucks to some charities that mean something to me, like Project Cuddle.  I'd set up some good accounts so I could send my kids to whatever schools they wanted to go to, regardless of the price, and I'd give my sisters a bunch of money so they could get whatever they wanted.

10. Your worst day ever?

Hm.  Gosh.  I'm not sure I guess.  I've been very lucky in the fact that I haven't had much tragedy in my life.

11. Did you resolve to do anything differently this year? How’s that going?

I did.  I'd say that I am doing OK with most of them.  There are a few that   don't seem to working for me at all.  Like cooking dinner more often and dealing with several years of family pictures on three different computers.

11 questions

Questions, questions, questions.  Why are there always so many questions to answer??

If you met your favorite movie star and could say whatever you wanted to him or her in 140 characters or less, what would it be? (And who is the movie star?)  Well hm.  I suppose the first thing to address here would be who my favorite movie star is, and that's a toughie.  Because I don't have just one favorite.   But one movie star that I really like is Matt Damon.  So, in 140 characters or less I would say.  "Hi I love you and your cutie little smile and I really think Jason Bourne is the bomb and I loved the song you did with Sarah Silverman because you are hilarious and adorable and wanna kiss?"  That may or may not be 140 characters.  It looks about right, so I'm going with it.

What’s your dream?  Gosh, I have a lot of dreams.  Some are pretty unrealistic, and some are do-able.  But one dream that might sound a little lame is to see as much of the World with my own two eyes, in person, as possible.

Ever had a scary parenting moment?  Um, absolutely.  I've had scary parenting moments (plural) with every single one of my kids.  Here is a sampling:  Kara:  Broke both wrists on a scooter, and while I was winning the shitty parent of the year award for not recognizing that they were both broken, I was feeling scared because I wasn't sure what it meant for normal growth after fractures.  Alex:  had his first allergic reaction to we don't know what, but I'm pretty sure it was a combination of new puppy and new spring growth in the air (trees, flowers, grass).  He was three and I was 9 months pregnant with Megan.  We were alone in the car and I looked in the rear view mirror and saw an unrecognizable kid - face completely swollen, no kidding, I've never seen anything like it.  I was so scared.  I rushed him to the nearest urgent care and they took one look at him and said "you need to bring him to the emergency room."  I was like, "YA THINK?!  Can someone please help me here??!"  I was in full blown panic mode.  Meg:  my accident prone kiddo - got hurt often enough for me to worry that the doctors were gong to think I was hurting her.  She burned her back on a grill - really bad, she burned two (cigar shaped) circles on her arm from wagon wheel noodles, that are actually scars several years later, she got a stick in the eye and scratched her cornea, she pulled her elbow out of her socket climbing AND she fell out of my truck landing on her HEAD for a nice trip to the ER.  Kid scared me often.  I swear I was not negligent.  Brookie:  Her birth scared me - I thought we were both going to die, and she was pretty darned close.  I had placenta abruptia, had to have an emergency c-section AND her cord was in a very tight knot, cutting off her oxygen.  The doctor said thank God that I had the emergency c-section because if we had waited the two days for the scheduled induction, chances were likely that she would have been stillborn from the lack of oxygen.  So very, very scary.

Something besides your children that you are proud of.  I am proud of a successful business that I started and ran locally.

What’s your favorite book? Why? My favorite changes constantly, and so do the genres.  I really liked A Million Little Pieces by James Frey.  I don't care about the whole Oprah/questionable memoir controversy thing at all.  I really want to read that again.

What’s in your fridge?  Like currently?  Everything?  How about a little sampling.  Skim Lactaid, 1% milk, 1 1/2 dozen eggs,  sugar free jello, International Delight Hazelnut creamer, Reddi-Whip, a pork loin, a bag of baby carrots, a case of seltzer...

Do you make your bed every day?  I do.  I hate it unmade.  The rest of the room can be messy, but I can't handle an unmade bed.

Do your kids make theirs? Why/why not? I don't make them make their beds every day, I make them close their door. :)  I'll make their beds for them every once in a while, I know they are busy and they are kids and all - but they'll make it when I ask without much of a hassle.

What’s your best kid’s riddle or joke?  Where do Generals keep their armies?  Up their sleevies!   ahahhaha!  I am such a comedian.

Epidural or au natural?  Yeah, I've gone both of these routes (and the c-section route), and let me tell you how freaking insane labor with no drugs turned out to be.  Epidural, all the way. Suffering in pain for hours and hours and hours does not make you a better mom, I promise.  But if you can get through labor fine without it, go for it.

Ask your kids what they like about you and what bugs them about you and write it verbatim here.  Brooke: Um, I like you because you're you and you're a nice person and you take me everywhere and you're so pretty and I like your hair and clothes.  What bugs me about you?  Hm, that's a toughie, I have no clue!  Alex:  Um, I like that you care for me, you are a nice girl, pleasant to be around, you buy me clothes, you give me freedom.  Also, when you yell at me its easy to tune you out.  It bugs me that sometimes you won't treat me like a 15 year old, and sometimes you get annoying attitudes.  Meg: I like you, you're nice and a cool girl and you feed me, clothe me and house me.  It bugs me because sometimes you won't let me go to concerts and other times you aren't exactly the best at help with homework and also maybe once in a while you could let me have new friends over.
I didn't get a chance to ask Kar this question, and I have to post.

Do you have any advice for Snooki?  Get out of reality TV.

7 completely random questions

Questions/answers

1. What is your favorite kind of pasta?
You know, I love orzo.  And baby shells.  I am not sure what it is about tiny pasta that makes me feel a little happy inside, but baby shells and orzo definitely do it for me.

2. How many people did you meet in your life who were really good kissers?
I'm not much of a kisser and teller, but I'd say there were a few really good kissers that I've had the pleasure of locking lips with, maybe one or two stand out as great.  Maybe a handful of really good.  Bad kissers got the door.  Because you can't waste a ton of time trying to mold someone to your liking.  Some things are just not trainable. And kissing is really important.

3. What is your favorite book of all time?
This is a question that just doesn't work for me.  It's like asking who your favorite kid is.  There are so many amazing books out there that I love for different reasons, I could never choose one favorite.

4. What have you done that you are most proud of?
Well, I guess there are a few things that I can say I am proud of - one of them is starting, running and owning a successful business.  Probably though, I am the most proud of surviving as a young single mom.  Surviving, doing it on my own and coming out on the other end OK.  And I ended up with an amazing daughter who made it through OK too.

5. If you could go anywhere in the world, where would it be?
Really, I want to go to Fiji.  That's the one dreamy place in the world that I imagine would be hard to actually get to.

6. How many pairs of your underpants are actually doctor-worthy at this point in time?
I would say 98% of my underpants are doctor-worthy.  I don't keep around holey, old, ripped up grungy underwear.  My husband on the other hand flips out if I toss his old underpants because he thinks they are "lucky."  He's a weirdo and has been known to rescue underwear that I've thrown out from the garbage pail.  He's a grungy underwear hoarder.  I do have two pair of dumb comfy boring old plain old underpants that I wouldn't wear in front of anyone.  But sometimes you just need to wear the comfiest thing.  That's why I keep those around.

7. What movie really, really, really made you cry?
Uh, what movie doesn't?  I am a movie cry baby and I can't help it.  I get emotional!  It's just who I am!  Boys Don't Cry kills me every. single. time, and omg Philidelphia with Tom Hanks, and of course Titanic.  One movie that never fails to make me cry my face off is Steel Magnolias.  Also, Stepmom with Susan Sarandon and then Top Gun - ugh that Goose/Maverick scene ... should I go on?  Because this post could get pretty long.
