random, boring misc chatter

Its been kind of a weird week. I have had painters here doing some painting inside the house - we're changing some things up. We built this house 11 years ago, and I am definitely overdue for some change.  A fresh coat of paint makes everything seem better and new and fresh. Like a Spring thing.

So that's good. But what isn't good is that I have to be UP and SHOWERED at the ungodly hour of like 7:30 am. What am I, an animal?? My eyes are so sleepy they want to fall asleep. It's not very pleasant.

Alex has actually been to work early all week for the first time in our marriage. So he's been getting a lot of work done. He was shocked at how much he could accomplish by getting to work at like 8:30 am, as opposed to when he typically rolls in at 10:30 or so. I think he'd be shocked if he ever changed firms. I'm not sure all employers would appreciate his slow-pokey time table. He just cannot be early or on time, ever. It's a thing. Actually it is one of the very few things we ever get in a tiff over. Or I get irritated enough to flash an evil eye at.

His chronic lateness used to drive me crazy.  But I've pretty much gotten over it. It only makes me mad when it affects me or the kids, because I like being on time! Otherwise, I shut my trap and let the chips fall where they may. I'm not his mom.

Alex is home from college for the week. I love having him around, he's so funny. He's so ready to get up and get going every day, so unfortunately I think he looks at me like I am a huge loser, because I don't usually do a lot of fun stuff every minute of every day. He does like being entertained. My idea of entertainment is sitting on my comfy couch/office, drinking a cup of coffee, reading the news, maybe playing a Words game or something. His idea is definitely not that.

So it's almost Easter and my sister is coming into town tomorrow, which will be fun. She'll be the first to sleep in the newly put together guest room. Unless someone snores tonight. :) It'll be a full house because I think all of her kids are coming too.  My niece KK is a nurse in Philli, so she has shitty hours and we hardly ever get to see her anymore. Especially during holidays, so I'm looking forward to hanging with her. She's one of my favorite people.

Other than that, it's been pretty boring and uneventful around here. Except whoa. My newly discovered best lunch ever!!  Kara found this recipe for cucumber noodles with peanut sauce on Pinterest, and I have been obsessed with it. I have made it for lunch every single day. I could also eat it for breakfast and dinner. Click HERE if you want to check out the recipe.

It just occurred to me that my kids have no school tomorrow, and I have no Easter candy or basket stuff. I'm a slacker mom!! Not only am I a shitty tooth fairy, I am also a shitty Easter bunny! Well THAT stinks! That means I have to make a Target run. Hm, I guess that's not the worst thing ever.

my night at home, and also, hey! this is my 1,000th post!

Hey, I just realized this will be my 1,000th post! Jeez, it's not even going to be a good/interesting/exciting/humorous post! I have nothing great planned for this momentous event! I'm so lame. Sorry.

Anyway, some magazine I read had this feature called "My Night at Home," and it was one of those things where a celebrity fills in the blank so we can all read it and feel some connection to how "normal" they actually are.

In case you were interested in what my night at home looks like, OK let's be real, pretty much every night I have is a night at home, because I don't usually go out on the town. In case you didn't know, I am a complete introvert that likes being in my comfy clothes and likes hanging in my own cozy space. But because it's Friday (wooHOO! TGIF GUYS!) I will be like a celebrity and give you all of the dirty details from last night's night at home. I know you can't wait.

My night at home,

I watched very little on TV because Alex was out of town overnight for a few meetings. I can't watch any of our shows without him because that's just TV cheating and that's not very nice. Also, when nobody is home, I kind of like the peace and quiet.

I shopped online for something a little weird. I want to try to make some of my own make-up, so I shopped for some of the ingredients I need, like Shea butter and arrowroot powder and weird stuff like that. Also the little jars and things to put the make-up in once I've made it.

I called Alex, because he wasn't home. And also, he's one of the few people I talk with on the phone. I hate talking on the phone. Come to think of it, he probably called me.

I kissed my kids goodnight. That's it. No other kissing occurred, damn it.

I texted Alex a few times because you know, he texted me first, so I answered. I'm often nice like that. Also my friend Melissa to firm up plans between our kids for Friday.

I wore comfy grey PJ pants, a black tank top and a black zip up hoodie. And slippers. Definitely slippers. I typically wear some version of this every night. I love to be comfy.

I hung out with my own self. See above. I am perfectly fine hanging alone. I like it, actually.

I listened to playlist after playlist on Spotify. I organized a few of them, actually. I love organizing my tunes. And listening to them.

I laughed at something, probably. Or maybe not.

I cooked a grilled cheese sandwich. I am a fan of the grilled cheese sandwich... all warm and cheesy. Yum.

Which reminds me that I have forgotten to eat lunch. Good thing because wow, my nights are pretty boring, now that I look at it all spelled out for all of the world to see. I'm not offended if you concur because those are actually my favorite kind of nights. Quiet, calm, peaceful and grilled cheese. Works for me!

slacker

Fine.  Let's put it all out there.

I've been a huge slacker.  Blog slacker that is.  I know after the holidays I said I would be back large and in charge, but my posting is fly-by-night, random and lack luster.  Or would that be lacks luster?  Oh I don't know.  But let's be real.

I have been feeling a little bit of the old writer's block, can't seem to get my thoughts together the way I want to.  It's rather irritating.  I don't know what my problem is but I am totally lacking focus.  Also, I have been pretty busy and have to admit I have even fallen way behind on my (extra long) blog roll.   I hate missing even one day of my favorite posters.  And if I do miss even one day, I am super behind because I have to read as far back as I missed.  Otherwise I could quite possibly be out of the loop.  Not exactly sure which loop, but if there is one, I don't want to be out of it.

On another note, I added a show to my line up!

It was purely accidental, I know I mentioned the quandary about adding new shows to your line up, but this one was pretty much forced upon us.  Alex's Uncle Chris has totally gotten us hooked on some great TV.  He makes these suggestions and eventually we get to them and eventually we are way hooked.  So anyway, I think around last year, UC got us season one of this show, Breaking Bad.  It just sat there unopened for a long time because for whatever reason we just didn't get going with it.

So this year, UC has been seriously badgering gently requesting that we please just check out the first episode and he promised we'd be hooked.  He also gave us season two -- because he is that sure.

Well.  UC was right.  We are hooked.  The bad news is that we've been up til like one in the morning all week just trying to squeak another episode out.  We have been glued to the couch.  What a great, weirdly twisted show.  Totally out there and different and I love it!

I don't even know what channel it's supposed to be on.
